The 12th International Conference on Appropriate Technology (ICAT) will be held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, between November 24th and 27th, 2026. The theme of the conference is “Harnessing Appropriate Technologies for Sustainable Development: Empowering Communities, Bridging Gaps and Driving Inclusive Growth”.

For two decades, the International Network on Appropriate Technology (INAT) has been a vociferous voice within the appropriate technology (AT) movement, holding biennial conferences in Africa and celebrating scholarly contributions to, and innovations in, the fields of science and technology. In collaboration with top African universities, conferences have since been held in Benin (2018), Ghana (2010), Kenya (2014), Rwanda (2008), South Africa (2012, 2020, 2024), Sudan (2022), and Zimbabwe (2004, 2006, 2016).

The 12th ICAT is hosted by the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in collaboration with Solusi University and Chinhoyi University of Technology. The local organizing committee is led by Mr Sibangiso Ngwenya and Mr Khulekani Sibanda.

We look forward to receiving abstracts for papers, posters, workshops and appropriate technology demonstrations. All will have their rightful place in the 12th ICAT. Oral platform presentations will be for papers that are accepted as such following double-blind peer review, and these will be published in the 12th ICAT Proceedings. Papers may also be submitted for poster presentations at our Poster Paper Session. You can also submit a proposal to hold a scholarly or hands-on workshop during the conference. Proposals may also be submitted for the Appropriate Technology fair, which will showcase AT projects that have been implemented or developed by various groups including universities and colleges, schools, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs), government laboratories and institutions, and commercial enterprises.
